Does anyone know where the file and the app icons are stored in Tiger? I can't find them.

Icons for what? AppleWorks? Right- or Control-click on the AppleWorks 6.app icon & choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. The icons are in the Resources folder. This is true for most OS X applications that are packages.
