slow down

Postby Lawrence » Sat Aug 23, 2008 10:45 pm

I am using an iMac OS 10.04.11
Apple Works is very slow in starting up. When typing, the fonts sometimes do not appear, then suddenly roll on the screen. Occasionally, when deleting, the response is similar. There is a hesitation--fonts are not deleted even though the delete key is repeatedly pressed. Then all at once the fonts are wiped out.
If anyone has had this experience and found the solution, please help! Thanks
Lawrence

You have run into the "Recent Items bug" that has been around since AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000. AppleWorks keeps aliases for every document you've ever opened. It does not remove them as the preference setting would indicate. The preference only limits the number showing in the Recent Items tab of Starting Points. It can make it appear that AppleWorks has frozen or failed to launch. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Documents > AppleWorks User Data > Starting Points > Recent Items & delete all (or most) of the aliases in this folder. You may also want to delete the items in the AutoSave folder. Then, restart AppleWorks.
