Opening 6.2.9 documents in 6.2.4

Postby paper and pencil » Thu Aug 13, 2009 9:16 am

Hi,

Two "easy" questions, please:

1. Can documents Created and/or Saved in AppleWorks 6.2.9 be opened in 6.2.4?
(OS 10.2.8)

2. Can I have two versions of AppleWorks (6.2.4 and 6.2.9) on the same computer - but on separate hard drives?

Thanks for all your past help!

You should be able to. The 6.2.9 update didn't change anything connected to file formats as far as I know.

The only occasion I can see problems arising would be if you have both versions running at the same time. There's only one set of AppleWorks 6 preferences files (for example) for each User account, and letting one copy of the application access and modify those files while the other is running could raise issues.

What is your reason for wanting to have the older version available? (Not that there aren't good reasons.) 6.2.9 was in daily use on my iMac G3/OS X 10.2.x until the machine was retired about a year ago.

Regards,
Barry
