Oh! Please Help! (AppleWorks 6.2.9)
I spent hours making a business card in a drawing program.
It prints beautifully. But when try to import line art the
images get fuzzy. I imported from PDF. The PDF prints
sharp. But when I drop it into AppleWorks Drawing or
Word doc, it gets fuzzy. Please, can you help me?
What did I do wrong!!

Important: I what to create my own line-art and have
it be as sharp as the lettering. Example: triangle, circle!!
I need to adjust the image size. I may need to get someone
else to fix the image and mail it back to me—what format?!

I must figure this out quickly! Thank you. -Drew

Hi Drew,

Open the PDF in Preview or Graphic Converter. Save it in PICT format. PICT is the native format for AW; everything else gets dropped to 72 dpi resolution.

If the PICT image is still fuzzy, go to AppleWorks preferences and turn on "Use fractional character widths." It's a text setting, but it also affects printing of graphics.

Regards,
Barry

Barry, when I changed my preferences like you said
my problem with fuzzy line art disappeared! Thanks!!!

BUT! Now that I have turned on “Use Fractional Character Widths”
why would I want to turn if off! Will I suddenly see strange looking
lettering and odd ball printing in previous files long after I have
forgotten that I changed the settings?

Wow! I think this might be important to know before I forget.

Thank you, Drew

P.S. For others reading this post:
1.)Convert graphics to PICT by opening in Preview or Graphic Converter. (re-save)
2.)Then: AppleWorks Preference> Text> turn on “Use Fract Char. Widths.

Fractional character widths shouldn't cause any noticeable differences on screen. It does something with postscript printing.
