Since the name of this new forum is "iWUG", can it safely be assumed that both Pages™ and Keynote topics will be entertained?

Hi Tim

I'm wondering if this is practical. While these forums don't have a huge amount of posts, I'm wondering whether people that predominately use Pages are going to get frustrated sorting thru the intermingled Keynote posts, and vica versa (sp?). Would it better to have two separate forums for Pages and Keynote, as well as a single forum for iWork Wishes?

Your thoughts about this would be appreciated. Cheers.

We've had some lengthy discussions at the AWUG/iWUG office about the single forum/separate forums issue...there are important advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.

Creating separate forums certainly makes it easier to find a topic that's specific to Pages or Keynote.

On the other hand, there's a lot of commonality between the two applications...just two examples are their shared use of the "Inspector" and "Media Browser" metaphores. Having separate forums makes it more likely that a user having difficulty with an inspector or the media browser in one application will miss an answer to their question on the other forum.

This becomes particularly important if and when Apple adds more applications to iWork. We could end up with four or five forums, which would fragment the questions/answers even further.

We originally had this discussion when creating the AppleWorks forums and decided that there was enough commonality between AppleWorks' modules that users were served best by keeping all their posts in the same forum. Again, that works well for some and not for others. But we'd like to try that same approach with iWork...for now, at least.

Thanks for the considered reply, Warren. I'm impressed with the thought that's went into creating a new forum, and hadn't considered that the same applied to AppleWorks, or of the high degree of commonality between the two iWork products.
