files of different types

I've tried saving Pages documents in a different file format, (TIFF, JPEG, etc) but every time it's saved as something else, no program will open it. The icon on the desktop turns from the Pages logo to the icon of a document, and can't be opened. So, how do you do a Save As from Pages into a different form? Or is it 'once an Pages document, always an Pages document'?Thanks

Pages documents can only be "saved" as Pages documents (Pages 1 or 2 if you have Pages 2). You can "export" (basically save as, but a different command) as PDF, Word, HTML, RTF or plain text. In any of these cases the appropriate 3-letter extension will be added to the file name. There is no option to save a Pages document as a graphic format such as .jpg or .tif.

Are you sure you're not using AppleWorks or some other program to save a file (not a Pages file) in a graphic format? Or are you just changing the extension on the file in the Finder?
