WP word highlighting

Recently my AW v6.2.9 on Max OSX v10.4.9 stopped highlighting words/lines with colored background. Instead it created a series of black line boxes around each letter. This went on for several annoying days & then reverted to normal. Can anybody tell me why this happened &/or how to cure it if it happens again.

Sounds like something a system restart would cure.

Thanks. Apparently turning off the computer over the weekend & restarting brought it back to normal.
